Dr. Denise Handscomb, ND Dr. Denise Handscomb is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor with over 10 years of experience supporting patients in reaching their health care goals. She is the co-owner of Abaton Integrative Medicine, in Oakville, and she has a special focus in women’s health, supporting women during peri-menopause, menopause, and pregnancy. Dr. Denise has completed additional training in prenatal care, pediatric care, environmental medicine, is a Naturopathic Doula who attends births and has met the College of Naturopaths of Ontario's Standard of Practice for Prescribing. This allows Dr. Denise to prescribe Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) and provide comprehensive hormone support for women during the transitional years.

We offer an optional Tulip Comfort Experience t hat includes Penthrox pain management for patients who prefer additional support. This service is not medically required, not covered by OHIP (although some insurance plans may cover Penthrox), and does not affect access to OHIP-insured care. The wait time depends on the urgency of your appointment types but currently 3-4 weeks. To ensure a timely appointment, the patient will be scheduled with first available doctor in the clinic. If you want to request a specific doctor, please ask your doctor to indicate which doctor you want to see in the referral. Wait time may be longer depending on the requested doctor's availability. Quick expert access to IUD and Implant consultation, insertion, removal and replacement IUD (Intrauterine device) IUD (Intrauterine Device) Intrauterine Devices, or IUDs, are small, soft, T-shaped device with a nylon string attached to it. It is put in the uterus to help prevent pregnancy. Depending on the type of the IUD, it can help prevent pregnancy for 3 to 10 years. Copper IUDs are favored by patients who hormone free birth control that is more effective than the pill. It is also a great option for people who want to have monthly bleeding, either for reassurance or beliefs. Copper IUD users can expect heavier and longer periods with more cramps, so may not be a great option if you already have heavy or painful periods. They are often not covered by insurance, but cost much less than the hormonal IUDs. Hormonal IUDs come in 2 sizes. The smaller one (Kyleena) is recommended for those who are younger (including teens) or those who never had a pregnancy. They last 5 years and are covered under most drug plans, including OHIP+ if you are under 25 yo. Hormonal IUD users like that their periods are often much lighter, and about 20-40% will report that their periods stop altogether, which is completely ok. We place over 700 IUDs a year and complications are very rare. Everyone's IUD insertion experiences are different and most do very well. The whole procedure will only take 1-2 minutes usually. It will help to take some pain relievers just before your insertion appointment. Request Consultation

She completed her Obstetrics and Gynaecology residency training at McMaster University. She speaks English, Ukrainian, Polish, and Russian. She is interested in providing care for women throughout their lifespan.
