TULIP COMFORT EXPERIENCE
What is the Tulip Comfort Experience?
It is an optional comfort experience offered to patients who would like additional support during gynecologic procedures.
This is best for those who are anxious, worried about pain, had previous painful experiences, or want the most supported and comfortable experience we can offer.
It includes Penthrox pain management along with comfort and support measures to help you feel more at ease.
Most people choose this for procedures such as IUD insertion/removal/replacement or endometrial biopsies, but some choose for pap tests and colposcopy as well.
What does the Tulip Comfort Experience include?
-
Penthrox (methoxyflurane) pain management along with extra time/support necessary
-
Penthrox is an inhaler that contains a drug called methoxyflurane, which is poured into the device. A piece of gauze inside soaks up the liquid and you inhale the vapours. These vapours are what provide the pain relief. It is self-administered, self titrated, rapid-acting, non-narcotic inhalational agent that is a low-risk, highly acceptable option for pain management of in-office gynecological procedures.

Is my procedure still covered by OHIP?
Yes. Your medical assessment and procedures are covered by OHIP. You are never required to pay to receive medical care.
Do I have to choose this option?
No. This experience is completely optional. Declining it does not affect:
-
Your care
-
Your appointment
-
The quality of medical treatment you receive
Is this the only way to manage discomfort?
No. Many patients choose to proceed without it and take NSAID/Tylenol prior to coming. Our team will discuss what to expect and support you regardless of your choice.
Why isn’t this covered by OHIP?
OHIP covers medically necessary services. Optional comfort experiences and certain pain-management options are not publicly funded.
Will my care be affected if I don’t choose it?
No. All patients receive the same standard of medical care, whether or not they choose any optional services.
