TULIP COMFORT EXPERIENCE

What is the Tulip Comfort Experience?

It is an optional comfort experience offered to patients who would like additional support during gynecologic procedures.

This is best for those who are anxious,  worried about pain, had previous painful experiences, or want the most supported and comfortable experience we can offer.

It includes Penthrox pain management along with comfort and support measures to help you feel more at ease.

Most people choose this for procedures such as IUD insertion/removal/replacement or endometrial biopsies, but some choose for pap tests and colposcopy as well.

Is the Tulip Comfort Experience Right for Me?

At Tulip Women’s Health, many patients do very well with our standard procedure care.

For some patients, though, the idea of a gynecologic procedure can feel stressful, painful, or overwhelming. If that sounds like you, the Tulip Comfort Experience may be a good fit.

You may want to consider the Tulip Comfort Experience if:

  • You have had a painful IUD insertion, biopsy, or gynecologic procedure in the past.

  • You feel anxious or nervous about the procedure.

  • You have fainted, felt lightheaded, or had a vasovagal reaction with medical procedures before.

  • You have a history of trauma or find pelvic exams difficult.

  • You are worried about pain and want the most supported experience available.

  • You know that investing in comfort would help you feel calmer and more in control.

  • You simply want the highest-comfort option we offer.

What does the Tulip Comfort Experience include?

  • Penthrox (methoxyflurane) pain management along with extra time/support necessary

    • Penthrox is an inhaler that contains a drug called methoxyflurane, which is poured into the device. A piece of gauze inside soaks up the liquid and you inhale the vapours. These vapours are what provide the pain relief.  It is self-administered, self titrated, rapid-acting, non-narcotic inhalational agent that is a low-risk, highly acceptable option for pain management of in-office gynecological procedures.

  • Calming environment (gentle aromatherapy ambiance)

  • Heating pad during the visit

  • Comfort supports (pillows/blankets as needed)

  • Drink and a light snack (as appropriate)

  • Personalized aftercare and review

  • Extra comfort and care throughout the visit

The goal is not just pain relief. The goal is to help you feel cared for, informed, and supported throughout the experience.

Why do patients choose it?

Patients often choose the Tulip Comfort Experience because they want to feel more comfortable, less anxious, and more supported during a procedure that may otherwise feel intimidating.

For the right patient, it can be a game changer.

How much does it cost?

  •  $225

  • This fee is not covered by OHIP.

  • Penthrox is included as part of the Tulip Comfort Experience. The cost of Penthrox/ administration is $150, and some private insurance plans may reimburse this portion, depending on your coverage. We recommend checking with your insurance provider directly if you would like to confirm whether Penthrox is eligible under your plan.

Is my procedure still covered by OHIP?

Yes. Your medical assessment and procedures are covered by OHIP. You are never required to pay to receive medical care.

Do I have to choose this option?

No. This experience is completely optional.

Many patients choose standard care and do well. Others prefer to invest in additional comfort and support. There is no right or wrong choice — only the choice that feels best for you.

Is this the only way to manage discomfort?

No. Many patients choose to proceed without it and take NSAID/Tylenol prior to coming.

Why isn’t this covered by OHIP?

OHIP covers medically necessary services. Optional comfort experiences and certain pain-management options are not publicly funded.

Will my care be affected if I don’t choose it?

No. All patients receive the same standard of medical care, whether or not they choose any optional services.
